As you all know Signature has recently returned from the FiT show with their heads held high after the success of their stand at the show. One of the most memorable events of the show was the beading competition that took place on the stand. Fitters were encouraged to take part in beading one of Signatures windows to see just how impressive Signatures own bead is. They weren’t let down.

It was a tough competition with fitters from afar taking part; it drew a lot of attention to the Signature stand and created a great atmosphere around the show. With spectator’s eyes on every one of the competitors, the pressure was on, and the fitters rose to the challenge.

We would like to congratulate Chris Maguire – Elegant Products, Barrow-In-Furness for winning the beading competition with an impressive time of just 36 seconds! That’s right; a whole 3 pane window: fixed, side hung and fan light; beaded in 36 seconds. A well-deserved brand new iPad is on its way to you Chris!

Signature has recently returned from the FiT Show in the Telford international centre and it is safe to say that one product on the Signature stand stole the show; The New Wave Door.

The New Wave door; or slide and swing door; is  a relatively new concept from New Wave that has taken manufacturers, installers and homeowners by storm due to its flawless functionality. The Slide and Swing door does what it says on the tin; the door has both a slide and swing function that is altered by a magnet system in the aluminium tracks that the doors slide in. When the magnets are engaged it enables the active doors swing function by lining up a nylon locater with a groove in the top track of the door as well as lifting the bottom of the door out of the bottom aluminium track. When the magnets are disengaged it drops the door back into the aluminium track therefore enabling the slide function of the door.

Signature has recently been to the FiT Show in the Telford international centre, a lot of time and effort has been placed into marketing Signature’s presence at the FiT show as well as into the stand design.

The FiT show was from the 16^th – 18^th April and had thousands of visitors through the door over the three days. This was a great opportunity for the Signature team to show off their brand and all of the perks that becoming a Signature installer has to offer.  After a hard three days’ work, the team returned back to Essex to sort through the data collected from the FiT show. Signature look forward to creating relationships with potential new installers gained from the FiT show.

Signature feels that the FiT show was a massive success, generating many leads as well as promoting Signature and Pioneer Trading Company nationwide, so much so that Signature has already booked their spot for the FiT Show 2014. Bring it on!

The Green Deal is a plan backed by government funds to make the UK a much more economically friendly country, what the plan proposed was to allow people to get a grant from the government to have their house upgraded to a more economically friendly status for free and give the glass and glazing industry more work.

The idea being that the UK can reduce its carbon emissions in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol without the public having to sacrifice their money for what is in essence the governments’ issue.

The outcome of the plan has been less than impactful, with less than 20 glazing companies actually being Green Deal certified and the fact that getting the grant for your house is overly difficult due to consumers having to include multiple parties in the implementation if the Green Deal. Also the cost for a company to become Green Deal certified pushes away a lot of companies as the income received from being Green Deal certified may not cover the costs of becoming it in the first place.

So in its current form the Green Deal will not serve as much of a benefit until the problems of costs and complexity are sorted out and allow a much quicker and smoother experience for customers.

Most people this week will have heard that the Governments Green Deal Scheme has been finalised and launched.  At Signature Solar we’ve been monitoring parts of the scheme and are as yet, to be convinced that signing up for the Green Deal offers any real financial advantage for our customers; certainly the interest rates offered on the scheme appear particularly high compared to the rates we are able to offer for certain products and services.  We will keep watching with interest to see if, as the scheme evolves, it becomes a benefit to our customers.

So instead of discussing something that all the business news is following, we thought we’d be different and mention a celebrity who has caught our attention this week; none other than Kevin Bacon!  Kevin has single-handedly turned the set for his new TV Drama, The Following, which aired recently on Sky Atlantic, into an all green environment, which was apparently inspired after working with Solar Power on the film, Crazy, Stupid, Love where they had a large lorry with a hydraulically operated solar array that was able to power the base-camp for the filming.

Draughty windows are a major cause of heat loss in your home. Fortunately it is extremely rare to find a window that it is not possible to fit secondary glazing, so there is a high chance that you will be able to lower the thermostat and save yourself in increased heating bills and trips to the doctors!

Two part side-to-side sliders

A rectangular window space can most easily and inexpensively be secondary double glazed by using the two or more panel system that slides side-to-side. Should the window be tall and narrow it would be best that thumb locks and rollers are fitted but normally the window would function quite satisfactorily without these extras.

Vertical sash

To secondary glaze the traditional vertical sash window a counter balanced sash unit should be fitted to match your existing windows. The spring balances allow the upper or lower sash to be operated without effort. For added safety and security we can fit locking catches.

Doors and single casement units

For doors and single casement windows there are two options. The first is a door with a frame and multi locking system. The second is most suitable for doors and windows that are rarely opened. This type is hinged externally and secured by turn bolts against the existing timber frame with a neoprene gasket. Both types are completely draught proof. However, there must be clearance at the head and base to allow the door to open inwards and not foul carpets, pelmets or ceiling bulkheads.
