Double glazing is a much more advanced window system than single glazing.  It helps keep heat within your property and lowers your heating bills. It works using a simple method of having two panes of glass with a space inbetween. This air gap can be filled with argon, krypton or left just as air and works as insulation from the harsh outdoor elements. The small gap has to be water tight otherwise the whole unit has to be replaced because condensation can gather between the two glass panes making the double glazing ineffective.

Recently the climate change has been more noticeable as the planet is getting warmer in the winter period or cooler in the summer, this is known by the government as global warming. Due to global warming the government are advising all people to“go green” to help lower the carbon footprint of your home helping to slow down the on-going processes of global warming. Double glazing can help slow down this process as it saves a lot of energy on your heating by retaining heat through two layers of glass filled with gas. Having double glazing has the equivalent energy saving properties as turning off your heating for a month every year.

In the current economic climate it is essential to save money wherever possible and heating bills can be reduced dramatically (over 50%) by having double glazing. This is because the heat produced is retained within the property meaning the heating does not need to be turned up so high or on for so long. Double glazing is so energy efficient that due to the money saved, they will have paid for themselves over a 7 year period.

Signature’s Danny Williams was looking for something new to set him apart from the competition. Of course, performance can be measured and Danny knows that as a proponent of Window Energy Ratings. “There are key characteristics that we know are widely popular and we have improved upon these with our design. A slimmer, well shaped profile and bead which, when coupled with the inherently stronger section, offers a significantly greater glass area. This is very important when replacing smaller windows and equal sightline frames such as bay windows. These ensure that the window looks instinctively different and generally more attractive.”

In the key area of thermal performance Danny says that the sash, with its sophisticated cell structure that he designed himself, will allow the production of a C Rated frame with no gas or warm edge spacer, and an A Rating with gas and warm edge, both ratings achieved without the need for expensive low iron glass, thus alleviating the condensation that is often a problem associated with this type of glass.
